Getting Your Grove on While Writing About Others Getting Theirs
By DC Stone
Has the title confused you enough? If so, then good, but let me simplify what I’m trying to say. Recently I was asked two questions, by two separate individuals, which struck a chord with me. Those questions were:
- Do you find that music influences the stories you write?
- If you had to choose any song to list as your theme song for Armed and Desired, what would it be?
To answer on the first question, yes, I have a playlist for every book I write and yes, I do find that those songs directly guide where I am going within the story. I mean think about it. If we’re running or working out, what are we listening to? If we are relaxing by the fire, what’s softly crooning in our ear? Studies have shown that listening to music can have a direct response on your blood pressure, your brain, and your hormones. Music, to me, enhances my creativity to “feel” my characters.
I wrote A&D with a playlist that contained nothing but songs by Robin Thicke. The words he sang just drove my characters to act out their fantasies, give in to their desires, and really lay it all out on the line. I mean, can you blame a girl?
So, let me turn the tables to you, my dear lovelies. If you had to choose any song to be your theme song of the year, what would it be? Comment below to get your shot at winning our Armed and Desired Tour Grand Prize.
I’ve included the playlist for A&D here, so if you get a chance, stop on by, and have a listen. Kick your shoes up, open up Armed and Desired, and get to reading. I’m sure you’ll find exactly what kind of mood I was attempting to set with a combination between the two.
About the Author

She lives in the north-east with her incredibly supporting husband, two kids, and the all American black Labrador puppy. She’ll deny any association with the grumpy cat that also resides in the house, but he is there, never-the-less.
After serving eight years of service with the United States Air Force, she went on to transition into the world of Financial Crimes and became a lead investigator for many years.
Reading has always been a passion of hers, getting lost in a good, steamy romance one of her favorite past times. That passion took a back seat as soon as she discovered her own love for writing and recreating her own stories and characters. Her writing concentrates on Romance with specifics in Paranormal, Suspense and Erotica.
Now, when she isn’t trying to solve a new puzzle in the world of fraud, she is engulfed with coffee, her laptop, and all those crazy characters in her head. Trying to keep up with that crazy bunch is a skill many would yearn to have.
She is a member of the Romance Writers of America, New Jersey Romance Writers, and the Liberty State Fiction Writers.
