Bad Boys of the Highlands, Book 2

Sourcebooks Casablanca

He was a Highland rogue—
wicked with a bow and just as wicked with the ladies.

Declan MacGregor hadn’t a care in the world beyond finding a soft bed and willing woman…until he had to escort Lady Liadain Campbell to the English court. The woman needles him at every turn, but he can’t just abandon her to that vipers’ nest without protection.

She never asked for a bodyguard…

Liadain wasn’t thrilled to be left in the care of her clan’s archrival. It was as if the man never had a lady tell him no before! And yet as whispers of treason swirl through the court and the threat of danger grows ever sharper, her bitter enemy soon becomes the only one she can trust…

We are so excited to have you at Simply Ali! I (Miranda) have to say I am a huge fan of your Highland Bad Boys! Temptation in a Kilt and X Marks the Scot both ooze romance and adventure. What inspired you to write these Highland heroes?

First, thank you so much for having me as a guest, Ali & Miranda. It’s so nice to meet a fan!

For Temptation in a Kilt, I truly wanted to write a love story. Granted, Ciaran and Rosalia were physically attracted to one another, but they were not going to get off that easily—no pun intended. Love is hard work, and I think they both had to overcome many obstacles to be together, grow as individuals.

When I sat down to write the entire series in general, I knew family/clan dynamics were going to play a large role. Some of the secondary characters i.e. Declan, Aisling, James made it all worthwhile. After all, family is what it’s all about. Notice I left out Rosalia’s delightful mother.

If you could describe your series in one line what would it be?

Highland bad boys and the women who tamed them.

X Marks the Scot is the second book in the Bad Boys of the Highlands series and it features my favorite MacGregor, Declan. It’s going to take a strong woman to tame this Highland bad boy how did you develop his heroine Liadain?

I knew the heroine had to be a strong-willed woman to take on THAT challenge. And no one fit the bill better than the bloody Campbell’s sister, Lady Liadain Campbell. Her personality traits were very strong, but there was still a tender side. I had a lot of fun exploring the avenues of Liadain’s personality.

What do you think it is about Highland Heroes that drives readers wild?

Alpha-males wearing kilts and wielding broadswords against a bonny Scottish backdrop. *sigh*

Will you be attending any conferences in 2013?

Yes. I’ll be attending my first RT Convention in May. Temptation in a Kilt is up for a Reviewers Choice Award for Best First Historical. *crossing fingers*

Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?

I’ll let you in on a little secret. Did you know Declan MacGregor’s character was loosely based on Ian Somerhalder’s character, Damon Salvatore, in The Vampire Diaries—minus the vampire, of course!
**oh my I can so see that!! Love it!!**

Is there an author that makes you go all "fangirl?"

Nora Roberts. I had a book signing with her last September and thanked her for letting me grace the shelves right beside her. Roberts-Roberts lol She said she was glad she could help me out.

If you could co-write with another author who would it be and why?

Lynn Kurland. Her Highlander books are phenomenal and truly love stories.

The world is under attack and you are forced to run for your life. You only have room for one book in your survival kit, what book do you take?

My own! I spent YEARS working on the first one. All that hard work is not going down the drain!

Who are your favorite literary characters? (Yours or someone else's)

All the classics.

If your friends were asked to describe you in one word what would it be?

Perfectionist—or anal. I prefer perfectionist.

Where do you do your best work?

My office with complete silence.

When did you fall in love...with writing?

I knew I liked to write when I was sixteen years old. I knew I loved to write in my thirties when that passion was rekindled.

Are you a plotter or fly by the seat of your pants writer?

Seat of your pants. This kills my critique partner. Before I begin, I know the first and last line of my manuscript. I have a brief idea of where I want the story to go and then I just—go.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of writing?

I love to look at antiques.

Hi Miranda and Victoria
Enjoyed the interview! to answer your question! Highlander are rugged men but they are also kind and passionnate men. The happiness of their clan is important. If they find the right woman, a highlander will adore her, protect her give her everything she wants. I can't keep away from scottish adventure with a marvalous Highlander on the cover. Love both the covers of your books!

Favorite thing about Highlanders is the accent, followed closely by their tenacious stubborn character which has a never say die attitude that translates into an honest to goodness wonderful Alpha Male who will die before letting harm come to his loved ones or comrades in arms!
