Multiple Sclerosis is a terrible disease. A good friend of mine was diagnosed shortly after high school. I have seen what this disease can do and I know how important it is we fight for a cure. Hello My Fellow Book Addicts,
On the day I was born my mother gave me a name I strive every day to live up to, Charity meaning “the love for all human kind”. I like to think that I give in every aspect of my life to others and this year for my Birthday I am asking my friends and family to help me give to a cause that has recently touched me and my family personally.
My sister Natasha Owens was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. For those of you not familiar with this disease, it’s a degenerative auto-immune disease with no known cure that will eventually leave my sister blind and completely immobile. There are several effective treatments that help decrease the progression of this happening but it is inevitable. I am hoping that a cure or an even better treatment can be found within my sister’s lifetime, but to do that the National MS society needs help raising money.
So for my birthday I am asking all my friends and family to help me continue to help me live up to my name by making a donation to the National MS Society in my sister’s name. Instead of giving me gifts, cards, buying me drinks or dinner, etc, I’d rather that this be my gift from everyone. My Friends and Family will be gathering on the night of my birthday, Friday Sept. 28th, to put money in a donation container in honor of my sister to help me raise money for the National MS Society.
I know that a lot of people will be attending and any amount of money we raise will be more than they had before, so every dollar helps to raise awareness, to find better treatments and possible find a cure. While brain storming about how I can maximize the donation to be made, I thought to myself, I am part of a community online that is worldwide, why not get them involved as well. Hence the idea for this raffle was born. With Michelle’s help, I was able to put together 3 VERY impressive prize packs for 3 Lucky winners.
The Cash and Paypal donations I receive for this will be put together and I will be hand delivering a Check to the president of the South Florida chapter the week after my Birthday!!! I have already set the appointment to meet with the chapter the following Monday and I am super excited to do this. Every penny raised will be going to the National MS Society, any additional expenses for this will be paid for by me, ie, shipping the prize packs.
I want to Thank Everyone in advance for helping me to make my Birthday about something that means so much to me.
