Devil’s Luck is a novella from the Disillusionists world featuring Simon. It stands alone, and features side characters, so you don’t have to know the trilogy to enjoy it, but in chronological order, it is 3.5 – it takes place at the end of the trilogy.
There’s a thin line between love and doom.
No wager is too outrageous for Simon Fitzgerald, the most reckless of the Disillusionists. His dark secrets drive him to take increasingly extreme risks, but he’s never lived so quite so dangerously as when he hooks up with Midcity’s most powerful prognosticator.
Fawna Brady is tormented by the destinies she sees for those around her. To Fawna, knowledge of the future is a cage she’d do anything to escape. She’s stunned to discover a taste of the freedom for which she yearns at the side of Simon, the one person in the world who despises everything she is, everything she stands for.
Simon’s defiant attitude toward destiny captivates Fawna, but will her love destroy him? And will Simon rush headlong into the delicious doom she offers?
Ali: Is there an author that makes you go all “fangirl?”
Carolyn: It would have to be Kresley Cole! I feel very fangirlish about her!
Ali: If you could co-write with another author who would it be and why?
Carolyn: Oh that is a really good question. I think it would be fun to write something with Nicole Peeler. She’s smart and fun, and we always have interesting discussions about the genre when we get together.
Ali: What are you looking forward to most about AADNola?
Carolyn: Personally, I Iove just chatting in elevators or really just enjoying downtime with people I know online. I find it so fun to spend time with readers who are on the same wavelength as far as books and heroes and reading, all the stuff I can’t talk to people in my regular life about! And also, chatting with other authors. It’s easy to be isolated when you’re an author.
Ali: The world is under attack and you are forced to run for your life. You only have room for one book in your survival kit, what book do you take?
Carolyn: Gah! How could you do this to me?? I might go with Kushiel’s Dart. It’s really long and I’ve been meaning to re-read it.
Ali: Who are your favorite literary characters? (Yours or someone else’s)
Carolyn: I love Nicholas Brisbane from Deanna Raybourn’s Lady Julia Grey mystery series. LOVE him. Also, Meljean Brook’s Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth from The Iron Duke.
Ali: Are there any of your secondary characters you would like to give more life to?
Carolyn: Shelby! My grim girl Disillusionist, BFF of Justine Jones. I have a short novella idea for her. Who knows when I’ll ever get to it.
Ali: If you friends were asked to describe you in one word what would it be?
Carolyn: Goodlistener lol can I say that? Pretty please?

Hi Carolyn!
Hee- Ali, wasn't the first time you met Carolyn at RT10? (And then you bought like 30 copies of her book at RomCon?) Right?
I was r̶i̶b̶b̶i̶n̶g̶ having fun with Carolyn about her forgetting readers as she was meeting them. And then she brought a See's chocolate sucker.
... At least the latter part I know is right. :P Great post, Carolyn! I wish I could be a boots girl too.
Great interview Carolyn. I have to check out your books, they sound awesome.Thank you for the opportunity.

Hi Carolyn! (I don't need to be entered in the contest since I own, read, and adored this book already).
So, basically, you're gettin' busy in the living room in your sexy red PJs, with a glass of wine and some French fries. Nice!

Not entering since I got it :D just stopping by to say hello
I just finished reading Mind Games, so just popped in to say hi.
Carolyn - I loved your story in the Wild & Steamy anthology so much that I rushed to my fav ebook retailer and bought Mind Games. I have been saving it ever since.
(Does anyone else do that? Sometimes I save a book because I know it is going to be good and am reluctant to start it because then it will be over...)
Carolyn - you are a new to me author. I will have to check your books out - they sound fabulous! I am with you on the burritos and french fries. :)

Hi, Carolyn! I love it when authors go 'fangirl' just like me. Here's to hoping we will both have someone to both go geeky over in the near future.

Loved the review! I was shocked that the only author she mentioned, that I'd heard of was Kresley Cole, whose books I haven't read also. But ought to I know. Anyway, Mind Games sounds really cool! Sounds like a real twister!
Thanks for spotlighting great new (or not so new) talents!
I prefer the boots myself. Since they have thicker wedges *shh*

Please don't enter me in the daily giveaway as I already have Mind Games and I could go fangirl on carolyn anytime ;-)
Thanks for the fun interview, I agree Kresley Cole's IAD series rocks!
And so glad to hear you'll write Shelby's story, she is a character I particularly love!
I'm like you, I could live on French fries and desserts if I didn't have to mind healthy eating ;-)
I could go on and on about what a terrific series Carolyn's Disillusionist series but I'll shut it now, I'll just say: if you haven't read it yet, go and read it, you won't regret it!! ;-)
