Devils on Horseback, Book 5

Samhain Publishing

Historical, Western

March 6, 2012

Handing over the reins is hard. Handing over his heart…damn near impossible.

Gideon Blackwood is on the run—from Tanger’s meddling matchmakers. With no intention of following the rest of the Devils down the aisle, he heads for the hills to reassess a life spent leading and caring for others…and runs smack into the business end of a shotgun. At the trigger: a curmudgeonly woman with a broken axle and a load of responsibility.

In Chloe Ruskin’s experience, men take what they want and leave a mess of trouble behind. The safety of two orphans and her granny is at stake, and the last thing she needs is Gideon’s “help”. This time, though, she has no choice but to allow the big cowboy to fix her wagon.

As they work into the night, grudging admiration grows into attraction—and desire. Gideon finds he can’t dig his boot heels in hard enough to avoid falling for the opinionated little female.

When Chloe’s family disappears, her suspicion threatens to destroy any spark of love before it catches fire. Gideon finds himself making promises his pride won’t let him break—even if it costs him the love of the woman who owns the missing half of his soul.

Ali: Is there an author that makes you go all “fangirl?”

Beth: Some of my all-time favorite authors do - Stephen King, Anne Rice (who was at RT and I missed her!), Elizabeth Lowell, Johanna Lindsey, Nora Roberts and Kathleen Woodiwiss (I'm so sad I never got to meet her).

Ali: If you could co-write with another author who would it be and why?

Beth: Ooh, good question! I would love to write one with Elizabeth Lowell but it would have to be an historical western. She hasn't written one in 15 years but I <3 her westerns really hard. We would make a seriously kick-ass western story.

Ali: What are you looking forward to most about AADNola?

Beth: I'm looking forward to the time spent with readers - it sounds corny I know, but writers are so solitary much of the time. The chance to spend a weekend in a beautiful place like New Orleans (I've never been!) is like the best dessert ever. Sweet, delicious and amazing!

Ali: The world is under attack and you are forced to run for your life. You only have room for one book in your survival kit, what book do you take?

Beth: Ha! Oh man, I can't take 2 books? *sad face* It's a toss up between ONLY HIS by Elizabeth Lowell or THE STAND by Stephen King. I can't pick! Maybe I can leave behind clothes to bring both?

Ali: Who are your favorite literary characters? (Yours or someone else’s)

Beth: I'm going to give you 3 of my favorite heroes - I've read these books many times. *sigh* Caleb Black from ONLY HIS (can ya tell it's on my keeper shelf? LOL), Wulfric Bedwyn from SLIGHTLY DANGEROUS by Mary Balogh, and Dunstan deBurgh from TAMING THE WOLF by Deborah Simmons.

Ali: Are there any of your secondary characters you would like to give more life to?

Beth: Oh, there are many secondary characters I'd love to give more life to. Write their stories, and find their HEA. One that comes to mind is Ellen from HELL FOR LEATHER. She's scarred and lives in a world she wants to escape from. Also Alice from RESTLESS HEART/ENDLESS HEART - that girl needs to grow up and become a woman. :)

Ali: If you friends were asked to describe you in one word what would it be?

Beth: Passionate. ;)

*Favorite color: Purple!

Hi Beth!

Loved your answers :D
Who doesn't love a hot cowboy book?

And... yup - Wulfric was a great character, wasn't he? So fun how Mary Balogh paired him with such an unlikely (yet perfect!) heroine.

I can't wait to hear all the awesome AAD stories!

SandyB said...

With all the different authors presented here by Ali, I REALLY wish I had gotten my ticket to AAD early so I could go. Every author here is someone I have read or want to read!

Beth - I have a very serious question for you: what kind of mac and cheese do you like? The classic Kraft dinner or something fancy with different cheeses and lobster or???

Beth Williamson said...

I'm thrilled by how may peeps came out to hang out. Thanks so much for all the kind words..

As for mac & cheese, I love all kinds. Used to eat Kraft mac&cheese before I became gluten intolerant. My favorite is baked mac & cheese with extra sharp white cheddar. Nom, nom. With rice pasta now of course. ;)
