Simply Interviewed: Shayla Black

Okay, today we have our mini-interview with Shayla Black... but, before we get started, I have something to share with you :) I read my copy of Decadent last night!! And, Oh. My. Gosh. This book has it all... it made me cry, it made me smile... it got me hot ;) This is a story you will loose yourself in as both her characters and story enthrall you. Seriously, if I could buy everyone a copy I would :) So, be sure to enter the contest posted yesterday for your chance to own Decadent :) I'll take entries until Saturday night and winners will be posted on Sunday :)

On to the interview :)....

1) I was very impressed with how you thoroughly mapped the emotions involved in such relationships. What did you enjoy most about writing this story?

Almost everything. I loved writing the emotions, but their interactions just flowed. Their conversations, their sex, their fights. It was a dynamic that just clicked for me. Because everyone had such a stake in this relationship and wanted such different things out of it, I had plenty of story to put down on the page.

2) Ménage has been very popular within the eBook community. How do you think it’s being received by the mass market?

That’s a great question, and the answer is I don’t know. Some authors have had great success with it, such a Lora Leigh with Forbidden Pleasures and Annmarie McKenna with Blackmailed. These are great sellers and wonderful books. I think and hope that readers who have traditionally read print romances are branching out to see what’s made some of the themes so popular in eBooks such a sudden hit with readers of print books from traditional New York publishers. But DECADENT was a book I HAD to write, so, ready or not, it will be unleashed on the romance reading world on October 2.

3) How has your writer career changed since you started out?

It’s now 20+ books strong, and I’ve written historicals, contemporaries, erotics, paranormals for 5 publishers! I’m thrilled at the doors that have opened for me and the readers who keep sending me emails. I started in a small imprint for Kensington and have worked my way through multiple genres, multiple formats and multiple houses. Everything that’s happening for me now is so exciting, and I am loving every minute of the ride.

4) What are you working on now?

My first paranormal romance for Pocket Books called TEMPT ME WITH DARKNESS. It will hit shelves September 2008. I’m hoping it will be the first in a series of books about a magical warrior society called the Doomsday Brethren. I’ve got a placeholder site for these books at
www.doomsdaybrethren.com. Come by and take a peek! I’m very excited about this book. It’s a dark, sometimes funny look at a world that’s adult Harry Potter meets Heroes with a whole lotta sexy going on. I’m having such a blast with this group of magical British bad boys!

5) What do you enjoy reading?

Anything sexy with an interesting premise and an alpha male. I read just about anything in romance, but most of what I read falls into that descriptions, regardless of genre or format. I love Lora Leigh and JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. I miss Dara Joy’s books, love Lara Adrian’s new series, read the heck out of Sylvia Day, Rhyannon Byrd and Jaci Burton every chance I get.

Great answers Shayla. I also got hooked on Lora Leigh's menages, I auto buy all her books. Love the graphics for The Brethern website, and getting introduced to your seven new hotties. I will definitely look forward to reading Marrok's story.

Ok, so I'm totally invading your post. You asked me to e-mail you from the Joyfully Reviewed Chatters yahoo group and I totally SUCK at plucking e-mail addys out of the messages.

There aren't too many who do religious erotica. Mychael Black as a few shorts, but I'm not sure where you can find them.

My most blatant religious erotica title (if you were asking about my work that is) is one you can read for free on Erotic Dreams Publishing website. All you have to do is register (free also and spam-free), click fiction and enjoy some work from a whole host of authors. Some of my favorites post their shorts there.

My title is "About to Sin" and it's a story about an out-and-proud ER doctor hooking up with a very closeted Roman Catholic priest. That is a series being presented in 2,500 word installments. We're up to installment 16 on the website.

Full Circle, my novel, has religious themes, but I wouldn't classify it as religious erotica. I also wouldn't argue with it being classified as religious erotica.

I'll drop a note to some of the other writers I know and see if they can give me a few more titles to pass to you.

I'm glad you all liked the interview. Thanks for the comments about TEMPT ME WITH DARKNESS. I'm nearly finished with that one now and am working hard to deliver a great read come next September!

Hmm.. I'm just curious if perhaps Shayla has had any M/F/M fantasies for herself and not just for her books.. (snicker)
