On Writing Romance ![]()
I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
On Me
I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. However I spent the past three years living and working in Japan, returning home to NZ only recently. If you’d like to see what I got up to over the years away, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).
So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.
Nalini's latest release:
Book 3 in the Psy-Changeling series
Blurb:
Explore new heights of sensuality in this return to the world of the Psy—where two people who know evil intimately must unlock the good within their icy hearts…
As an Arrow, an elite soldier in the Psy Council ranks, Judd Lauren was forced to do terrible things in the name of his people. Now a defector, his dark abilities have made him the most deadly of assassins—cold, pitiless, unfeeling. Until he meets Brenna…
Brenna Shane Kincaid was an innocent before she was abducted—and had her mind violated—by a serial killer. Her sense of evil runs so deep, she fears she could become a killer herself. Then the first dead body is found, victim of a familiar madness. Judd is her only hope, yet her sensual changeling side rebels against the inhuman chill of his personality, even as desire explodes between them. Shocking and raw, their passion is a danger that threatens not only their hearts, but their very lives…

OOOH!!! i love Nalini's books!!! I hope she picks me!! This is a very nice blog you have here Ali! :)
I just checked out your site. Whether I win this week or not, I told myself I have to treat ME to one of these... Naturally I'll buy the first in the series!
Nalini is absolutely adorable! I look forward to reading her interviews.
I absolutely adore these books. I cannot wait for the next one in this series.
I haven't tried any of Nalini's books. Would have to add that in my TBR pile.
Hi Nalini! A question for you: which of your varied career experiences do you think creeps into your writing the most? Will any scenes in a bank, courtroom, candy factory, etc. ever show up in any of your books?
I can't say enough how much I love Nalini's Psy series. Laura, definitely treat yourself to Slave to Sensation. If you love it as much as I did, you'll be right back getting the next two. Caressed by Ice is such an emotional story, but then that's what makes this series great.
Nalini, can you give us a tidbit on that other series you're working on, sounds very interesting.
Can’t wait to get this guest blog started! I just love Nalini and her books. It would be fun to talk to her.
I've not read any of Nalini's books yet. But I'm making my list for my next trip to the book store. Her books sound great.
I have not read any of Nalini's paranormals yet. Just got Caressed by Ice and really want the rest. I have read her Silhouette Desires. Bound by Marriage was great.
I like the cover of this one very interesting
Hi Everyone! Thanks for the welcome. I'm excited to be here on Ali's blog. :)
Let me see if I can answer the questions.
acdaisy - I have actually written about a lawyer, and in Slave to Sensation, there is a hint of Japan, so stuff creeps in, but it depends on the demands of the story. The candy factory hasn't made it...yet *grin*
Pam -I've tried not to tease people too much about that series yet, because it won't be out till 2009. But it's very dark, with a hero who'll send shivers down your spine. He beautiful, dangerous and used to getting what he wants.
Hi Nalini! I just recently finished Slave to Sensation so I'm a wee bit behind on the series. Excellent story! I have the next two on my wishlist. I love the cover on Visions of Heat. I'm going to stand that one face out when I get it. lol
Nalini, a dark hero always get my interest. I'll be watching your site down the road for more about him. You're going to be busy, having two para series going on, great for us!
Love your website, Nalini, and the Travel page is gorgeous!
Just found out that Caressed by Ice by Nalini Singh is nominated for Best Print Paranormal Romance at Night Owl Romance. Please go ahead and vote.
