Ali's Review: Stallion's Gambit

Stallion's Gambit By: Silvia Violet

Published by: Changeling Press

Length: 1 Horse Gallop, 22 pgs.

Ali's Report Card: B-

Intergalactic Investors Bank sends their agent, Raya Varvara, to Calder's Brinkley's estate. While they've only seen each other on screen while communicating, these two wonder if they'll be as hot for the other person once they meet.
When he finally does come to her, it's as the stallion Obsidion, his shifter form. Calder figures that Raya needs to be taught a lesson, and decides to rein her in. What better way than to get between her thighs.

Sylvia Violet has a promising plot in this Hot Flashes short story from Changeling Press. Unfortunately, I don't think the characters or the story line had enough time to grow. Raya is a strong heroine and when finally confronted with Calder in his human form she doesn't give in easily. Calder is just as strong, and a good equel for Raya.
Yet, even with a great plot and characters, I don't believe the story escalated enough, and there was no real climax...except for the sexual kind ;-). The sex scene is steamy enough to set your computer on fire. Raya has definitely met her match in the bedroom...or out in the field.
This story is recommended if you want some hot sex to read, in a short amount of time.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that Sylvia will write another story for Calder and Raya, to find out what happens after Raya learns her lesson :-). I did enjoy the secondary characters and the part they played in Calder's scheme, they added more humor to this story.
Sylvia Violet's latest release is with Samhain Publishing, titled 'A Carnal Agreement'. I've already bought my copy and look forward to reading this :-) You can find out more about this release and others, as well as her latest news, at Sylvia's website http://violetchaosnet.org

Yup, that's me in hiding, lol.
Okay, okay...I've been meaning to post my reviews, but real life came at me, ugh.
I, unfortunately, had to have a root canal done *yuck*, and am also getting ready to travel to Colorado for my best-friend's wedding, YAY!
I haven't forgotten about my blog, though :-) In fact tonight, I will post my reviews for Stallion's Gambit by Silvia Violet and Butterfly Kisses by Ann Cory. Also, I will be posting news on a sale and contest going on at Samhain Publishing. There's nothing better than a good book sale...okay, maybe a couple things better...like chocolate *yummy* lol.

Ali's Review: Poker Brat

Poker Brat

By: Barrie Abalard

Published by: Amber Heat

Length: 3 spanks, 33pgs

Ali's Report Card: A-

CJ Jackson thinks poker is a man's game, and that the only reason Kat O'Toole is winning is because of her 'assets'. Kat figures that CJ is just another cowboy who's out to control her. Even with their prejudice towards each other, they can't seem to tame their attraction. After inviting CJ for drinks, Kat tells herself that she would not get involved. Which turns out to be pretty hard to do once CJ proposes a one on one poker game. With either a spanking or one hundred grand on the line, things get pretty intresting when it's obvious both would prefer the spanking.

Barrie Abalard's story is red hot... and that's not just from the spankings. This novella doesn't miss a beat and flows smoothly. Kat isn't just another submissive heroine, she's dependant and in control. So in control that she can't even admit to herself how much she wants CJ and the spanking that comes with him. But can even CJ admit the obvious before he hurts them both?

The heat between Kat and CJ comes off the pages. There's no doubt that they are a great match for each other. From start to finish you will fall into their story.

You'll have a spanking good time reading Poker Brat, making you want to act a little naughty yourself...and ready to receive some discipline. A definite recommended story for a quick sexy read, that not only leaves you hot, but quite satisfied :-)

Read all about Barrie Abalard and her books at www.barrieabalard.com . Or read about Everday Erotic Moments on Barries blog, www.barrieabalrad.blogspot.com . Barrie's next release will be in September from Amber Heat, entitled, Semper Fi. I'm keeping my eyes out for this one, not only for the menage a trois story line, but for the Marine...yes, I do have a thing for men in unifrom ;-)

A Day Late and A Dollar Short...

Oops, did I forget to post my winners yesterday?
I do appologize :-) After trying to pick the winners with all different kinds of scientific methods, I decided to just put all names on pieces of paper and have an official judge (My beau, Nate) pick winners...lol. I'll be honest with you, I was real nervous :-) I wish everyone could be my grand prize winner. But then again, I'd have no more money for books, lol.
So, without further ado here are my winners:

Ali's Review: Virgin Afternoon

Virgin Afternoon

By: Vonna Harper

Published by: Ellora's Cave

Length: A Nooner, 48 pgs.

Ali's Report Card: A-

In one afternoon, Lara, a widow, begins to see her late husband's close friend, Bryan Aster, in a new light. As these two get closer, Bryan pulls off more than Lara's clothes, he starts to peel away her outer shell to reveal her inner desires.
But would Bryan be able to accept this new Lara? A Lara that is now a far cry from the conservative woman she's always had to be.
Vonna Harper has written a beautiful story in Virgin Afternoon, about one woman's journey to give in to her desires. The style of writing for this story was just perfect. Vonna allowed us into Lara's mind, able read her erotic thoughts and sometimes her uncertainty. As you read this, you are witnessing the struggle and change in Lara.
Lara goes from a somewhat shy wallflower to a woman who's come to terms with her wants and needs. And what Lara needs is Bryan. This isn't a bouquet of roses romance, but real life romance.
Lara and Bryan are so real, that you could picture them as someone you know. They have faults and needs just as anyone. And as much as I love Bryan, who wouldn't love a man accepting of your particular movie collection ;-), I truly felt this was more of Lara's story.
Vonna leaves us feeling satisfied with her ending, knowing this isn't just a one-afternoon-stand between Lara and Bryan, but that there is genuine feeling between the two.
I recommend this story as a tranquil read in your busy life.

You can find out more about Vonna Harper and her books at her website, www.vonnaharper.com . Oh, and if you need an incentive to visit her website, let me tell you, just about every cover features topless men ;-) This site will definitely be bookmarked, lol ;-)

Ali's Review: Heart of the Woolf

Heart of the Woolf

By: Kai Andersen

Published by: Loose Id

Length: Eight Inches. Read this story and you'll understand ;-) 142 pgs.

Ali's Report Card: A+

Adrienne Lee can no longer contain her carnal fantasies for her boss, Jake Woolf, behind her cool facade. And it's getting harder for Jake to hide his growing arousal for Adrienne, as well. Especially, when you add to the fact that he's and empath werewolf, and can both sense and smell her arousal. But is he ready for another relationship after the last time?
When working together on a project, Jake comes over to Adrienne's house and feeds more than her appetite for food. And while Adrienne doesn't mind sharing her body and bed with Jake, she'll have a harder time sharing her heart. Afterall, how will Jake handle it when he finds out she's into menage-a-trois?
When it becomes evident that someone is out to get her, Adrienne will question the loyalties of those she trust. Everyone around her seems to be hiding something, even her new bedmate.
Heart of the Woolf by Kai Andersen is a great suspenseful erotic romance. From the beginning of the story, it is filled with hot sex and chemistry between Jake and Adrienne. Jake is an alpha werewolf and because of his empath werewolf, has a kind heart. Right away his protective instincts kick in when he sees that Adrienne is in trouble. What more could a female ask for than a man who can read your thoughts and desires?
Adrienne isn't one to ask for help lightly. She's very strong and capable of taking care of herself, but realizes when to accept a helping hand. Especially when that hand belongs to Jake Woolf. Adrienne's fantasies liven this story up as you read about the predicament she's in when she starts to mix reality with fantasy.
The suspense in this story is edge of your seat. Just when you think you know who the bad guys are, Kai has found a way to change things up. Her writing leaves your heart pounding in the action scenes, both the sexy and suspensful ones ;-) This story is the perfect mix of action, suspense and erotic romance.
And you'll just love how Jake deals with Adrienne's sexual need and the creative way he brings it to their bedroom. Oh, the ideas you'll get from this story, trust me they're good. ;-)
I have found another writer to add my list of authors to bug with my e-mails :-) Kai better be ready for me to start begging for her next Woolf story, as I'm sure you'll want to after you finish reading this story.
You can learn more about Kai Andersen and her stories at www.kai-andersen.com
Next from Kai will be Mine Over Matter, a release coming from Samhain Publishing, in November. Until then, I highly recommend this story for your next purchase ;-)
P.S. Don't forget about my Contest, found in the August 1st post :-)

Ali's Review: Crimson Promise

Crimson Promise

By: Sapphire Phelan

Published by: Lady Aibell

Length: Thong length short, lol, 11 pgs.

Ali's Report Card: B

Victor, a Nosferatu or Undead, the last vampire from Earth, now walks the nights on a different planet. It is there that he has a chance meeting with Na'lesa, a native of the planet. After sharing a meal, they decide to get to know each other a little better.

Sapphire Phelan has wrote a unique and different story, than one I've read before. She is not only able to tell the story of Victor and Na'lesa, but she describes this new world she has created well enough that we can visualize it, and is even able to give a little history. The plot and its characters fit well together. Had anything been changed, I think it would have taken away from the story.

The sex scene with Victor and Na'lesa are definitely different, but still very hot. While the ending may feel a little rushed, it does tie up any loose ends. So, for all vampire lovers out there, be sure to check this out. Even if you don't read Vampire stories, for a quick read, you might want to add something new and try this out ;-)

You can read more about Sapphire Phelan and her books at her website http://fantasticdreams.50megs.com/ or stop by her blog at http://pamelakkinney.blogspot.com/ where she has just posted about an author's panel she's done :-)

CONTEST TIME!

Recommendations Contest

While it looks like I need to rebuild my whole e-book library, I don't think I should undergo this task myself :-) So, I've decided to run a contest, asking you what e-books you would recommend that I buy. Give me the title of the book, who the author is, and what site I can purchase it at, and if you can, share with me why you recommend this book.
I'd love to add more books to my list and can't wait to read what you all recommend. I'll be running this contest until August 13, 2006. Recommend as many books as you want and I'll add your names to the drawing. I'll pick various winners for different prizes, such as, book thongs, book lights, candles, and one grand prize winner will receive my very own Relaxation Gift Basket :-)
This book is open to both readers and authors. I'd love authors to tell me about their books and why they would recommend it.
YAY! I can't wait to see the recommendations and start some more shopping. Nothing makes a girl feel better than shopping, especially for books :-) Afterwards, I can't wait to share with you my reviews on them.
